ABOUT THE MURAL:

Painted during the 2018 SpraySeeMO Mural Festival, Phybr and his assistant Cora Quiroz came down from Detroit and added this beautiful piece to the East Crossroads. It is located in the lot of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, at 1725 Holmes.

A fated coincidence happened shortly after Phybr made the decision to paint a snake between his iconic foliage: while taking a much needed break from climbing ladders and painting in the heat, Phybr came across a fully intact snake skin that had recently been shed just off to the side of the mural! He took it as a sign and was reassured he had chosen wisely in this subject matter.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Phybr has participated in every year of the SpraySeeMO Mural Festival! After the last year of the event, he spent a one month residency here at Upper Level Gallery and had yet another fateful encounter when he met girl at a coffee shop and ended up falling in love. He relocated from Toledo to Kansas City in the summer of 2022 and has been making his mark in his new neighborhood of the West Bottoms ever since.

“Phybr is a Kansas City, MO based muralist / designer / educator that is primarily self taught in almost every facet of his expertise. Painting murals professionally for over 8 years now and after being involved with multiple mural festivals and music festivals across many states country-wide he has become more sought after for his colorful portraits and pop-esque tropical foliage. As of the past few years he has expanded into the fine art realm with his 2019 3D debut show dubbed “Poison Garden” with which he paved his way into 3D sculptural artwork bringing portraits onto hand cut wood creations along with his graphical foliage. With a background in working with a youth community program in Toledo, OH called the Young Artist at Work program and teaching after school art programs through the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI he tries to give back to communities as much as he can. Bringing cultural awareness and educating about culture and how to nurture it have been a passion of his since he began his art career. He is always looking for ways to engage the community positively and how art can make an impact through painting murals and teaching art along the way.” - PhybrArt.com
